The game is played with 2 packs of 52 cards and 4 jokers. One card is dealt to each player to determine the dealer. The smallest card will be used to determine the dealer. The cards will then be dealt in a clockwise direction.
Each player receives 13 cards, the rest are placed face down (the draw pile). The players, each in turn, can draw and throw a card into the discard pile. If all the cards in the draw pile are used before the end of the deal, the cards in the discard pile are shuffled and placed back in the draw pile.
The player can play all of his cards or some of them. These cards are placed face up on the table. This is how players can gradually eliminate the cards from their hand, the goal being to get rid of all of their cards.
Each turn is therefore made up of the following actions:
1. Take a card from the draw pile or discard pile
2. Place or not cards on the table / add cards to the opponent's three of a kind and straights
3. Discard a card.
To be able to play your cards, you must have one of the following combinations:
A three of a kind / four of a kind: this is a set of 3 or 4 identical cards but of different suits (no duplicate cards). For example, ♣Q- ♥Q- ♦Q and ♥9 - ♦9 - ♣9 - ♠9 are valid, but ♥4 - ♥4 - ♦4 is not because the 4 of hearts is repeated.
A straight is made up of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. The order of the cards is Ace-K-Q-V-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2.
For example, ♥Q- ♥K- ♥A and ♣8- ♣9- ♣10 - ♣V - ♣Q are valid sequences, but ♦2 - ♦A- ♦K is not. However, an Ace can be used to make A23 or Queen, King, Ace.
When a player has six consecutive cards, he has the choice between playing them in a single sequence of 6 cards or in 2 sequences of 3 cards.
To lay down his cards, the player must have a minimum of 30 or 51 points depending on the rules. If the player does not have these points, he will not be able to play his cards and will have to wait for the next round(s).
2 variants of Rummy are offered on our site. Rummy 30 and Rummy 51.
In Rummy 30, the player can play his cards as soon as he has one or more combinations worth 30 points minimum. The player is not required to lay down a sequence and can only play a part of his cards with a three of a kind, unlike in Rummy 51.
In addition, in Rummy 30, the player can also use a joker from his first combination to reach the minimum of 30 points.
In Rummy 51, to be able to play down his cards, the player must have a minimum of 51 points and must lay down a colored sequence which must not be composed of a joker.
He can play one or more three of a kind/four of a kind and a joker suit but he must have a suit such as , ♠Q- ♠K- ♠A or ♥8- ♥9- ♥10.
When cards are played on the game mat, you have the option of adding cards from your hand to get rid of them. To do this, the cards in your hand must complete a sequence or a three of a kind already played.
For example, if you have the ♠10, you can add it to a ♠7-♠8-♠9 spades sequence or to a three of a kind ♣10 ♥10 ♦10
However, you cannot add more than two cards to a sequence in a single turn. If you want to add three or more consecutive cards to a sequence, you must place them alone so that they form a new sequence.
A joker can be recovered if you have the card that the joker replaces. In a sequence ♠8 - Joker - ♠10, if you have the 9, you can put the joker in your hand. In a three of a kind
